Fix Wi-Fi QR Code Not Working — Common Errors & Solutions
Last updated: · 6 min read
Wi-Fi QR codes are convenient, but sometimes they just won’t connect — especially on certain Android or iPhone models. Here’s a complete checklist to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
1️⃣ Check your Wi-Fi security type
Most routers use WPA/WPA2. Make sure you select the same in your generator. If you use WEP or None (open network), some devices may refuse to connect for security reasons.
2️⃣ SSID and password are case-sensitive
Wi-Fi names like “MyCafeWiFi” and “mycafewifi” are different. Enter them exactly as shown in your router.
3️⃣ Avoid unsupported symbols
If your password includes ;, ,, :, ", or \, they must be escaped. QRBuilder.tech handles this automatically, so you can type them normally.
4️⃣ Hidden networks
If your Wi-Fi is hidden, mark Hidden = Yes in the generator. Note that older phones may fail to auto-join hidden networks. Try unhiding temporarily to test.
5️⃣ 2.4GHz vs 5GHz
Some devices (especially older ones) only detect 2.4GHz. If your router broadcasts only 5GHz, the QR will appear “invalid.” Enable both frequency bands for compatibility.
6️⃣ Check device-specific behavior
- iPhone: Allow camera access to “Scan QR for Wi-Fi.” Try Control Center’s QR scanner.
- Android: Use the QR option in Wi-Fi settings instead of camera if it doesn’t auto-connect.
7️⃣ Recreate with better error correction
When printing, use ECC: H (High) and at least 2 cm code size. Smudges or reflections can cause scan errors.
✅ Quick checklist
- Correct SSID and password (case-sensitive)
- Security = WPA/WPA2 (recommended)
- Hidden set correctly
- Strong contrast and quiet zone in prin
